Real Footage, At Last
We may have just found the only surviving footage of OOM-A-GOG in action. Not a photograph. Not a newspaper clipping. Actual moving film — our metallic friend, out in public, riding alongside Big Bill sometime in the early 1960s.
As we've mentioned before, the original broadcasts were live, and no kinescopes or recordings of the show itself are known to have survived. That's what makes this clip so remarkable — it isn't a copy of the broadcast, it's a glimpse of OOM out in the world, caught on film by someone who happened to have a camera rolling at the right moment.
Full credit here belongs to Tulsa Films, a wonderful local archive that's spent decades tracking down, preserving, and digitizing old home movies and professional footage shot around Tulsa. Without their work, this footage almost certainly would have stayed lost in someone's closet forever. You can watch the clip for yourself right here — keep an eye out around the one-minute mark:
We'll keep digging to see if anything else from this era turns up, but for now — seeing him move, even for a few seconds, is something we honestly weren't sure we'd ever get to do.
